Ronald McDonald Pop Tab Drive Tabs For Abs
When Philadelphia Eagles tight end Fred Hill’s 3-year-old daughter, Kim, was being treated for leukemia in 1974, his life changed. • He and his wife camped on hospital benches during Kim’s 3 year treatment • They saw other families experience the same thing • Many families had to travel long distances to get medical treatment and did not have enough money to get hotel rooms
The House That Love Built • They fought for a solution • Fred rallied the support of his teammates to raise funds • Through Jim Murray, the Eagles’ general manager, the team offered its support to Dr. Aubrey Evans, head of the pediatric oncology unit at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia • Evans dreamed of a comfortable temporary residence for families of children being treated at her hospital
Jim enlisted Don Tuckerman from the local McDonald’s, Regional Manager, Ed Rensi, launched the St. Patrick’s Day Green Milkshake promotion. • Funds raised helped buy an old house located near a hospital, which was opened in 1974 as the first Ronald McDonald House.
The network of Houses grew quickly after that • In 2010, the 300th Ronald McDonald House was opened • Now there are 309 houses • WE are sorry to say that Kim Hill, the girl we just read about passed away at the age of 44 • But her legacy will live on in the Ronald McDonald Houses around the world
Tabs for Abs! • Tabs for Abs is a group that is collecting pop tabs in the honor of a family friend, Abbey, who passed away recently. She battled from a rare genetic disorder, Aicardi Syndrome, all her life. Abbey collected pop tabs to donate to Ronald McDonald and this recent year her and her family collected and donated over 1 million pop tabs. The goal is to triple it in her honor this year.
Tabs for Abs! • Let’s donate the tabs we collect to Abbey's family. The end result will be the same, all tabs are given to the Ronald McDonald House by the family; however, we would be helping a family honor their child/sister. The family greatly appreciates all the help and support!
Please support the house by bringing in your pop tabs. You can make a difference! • The Ronald McDonald House Upper Midwest raises approximately $30,000 a year through their pop tab program. • So let’s keep it going!
