Core 44 College Transfer (CT) Pathways For eligible high school juniors & seniors who wish to gain transferable college credit while in high school Structured pathways to accelerate completion of 2-year college degree Four CT Pathways to choose from: • Business & Economics (33 hrs.) • Engineering & Mathematics (32 hrs.) • Humanities & Social Science (33 hrs.) • Life & Health Sciences (33 hrs.)
Transfer Degrees at VGCC • Associate in Arts (AA) • Associate in Science (AS) • Both degrees are comprised of Core general education courses that will transfer to any university in the UNC system
The Core 44 Courses • Associate in Arts (AA) core credits: • 6 English • 12 Hum/Fine Arts • 12 Social/Behavioral Sciences • 6 Mathematics • 8 Nat Sciences • Associate in Science (AS) core credits: • 6 English • 9Hum/Fine Arts • 9Social/Behavioral Sciences • 20 Mathematics/Nat Sciences
The Core 44, Con’t • All four CT Pathways consist of courses in the categories above • EVERY course within all CT Pathways is transferrable • If, a grade of “C” or better is earned • Transfers to any university in the UNC system
CT Pathway Eligibility • Initial Enrollment: • Student must: • Be a high school junior or senior • Have a weighted GPA of 3.0 on high school courses • Meet the prerequisites for the transfer pathway • Continued Enrollment: • Student must: • Continue to progress toward high school graduation • Maintain a 2.0 GPA in college course work after completing two courses

Approved Pathways • Business Management Certificate • Carpentry Diploma • Cosmetology Certificate • Early Childhood General Education Certificate • Infant/Toddler Care Certificate • Manicuring/Nail Technology Certificate • Medical Transcription Specialist Certificate • School-Age Care Certificate • Welding Technology Diploma
Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway • For eligible high school juniors & seniors who wish to pursue a pathway toward a career choice • Aligns with North Carolina Career Clusters • Articulated credit may be applied toward completion of credential • Leads to completion of certificate/diploma & some Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degrees
AAS Degrees • Business Administration • Early Childhood Education • Medical Office Administration • EACH course within the associated CTE Certificate can be applied to the AAS Degrees above

CTE Pathway Update • QualifiedHS freshmen & sophomoresmay enroll in: • Engineering Tech Program Codes 40xxx • Industrial Tech Program Codes 50xxx • Effective Fall 2013 • Criteria: • “Qualified” (determined by VGCC & LEA) • Obtain approval for Programs of Study (POS) • Students may concurrently enroll in two CTE pathways (College approval required)
