  2. Communication Communication is a process of exchange of information, ideas, thoughts, feelings and emotions through speech, signals, writing, or behavior.

  3. Today’s Overview

Nonverbal communication • Wordless messages that depend on the body language of speaker. • Gestures, body language, posture, tone of voice and facial expression. • Nonverbal communication has three elements: • Appearance (clothing, hairstyle, neatness.) • Body language (facial expressions, gestures, postures) • Sounds (voice tone, volume, speech rate)

  5. Nonverbal communication • What nonverbal communication do you wish to convey? • What is appropriate classroom nonverbal communication?

Verbal communication • It refers to the form of communication in which a message is transmitted verbally. • The objective of every communication is to have people understand what you are trying to convey. • Oral Communication: • Face-to-face, conversation, speech, telephone conversation, video, radio, television, voice over internet. • Communication is influenced by volume, speed and clarity of speaking.

Written Communication: • Printed or hand written. • Email, letter, report, memo. • Influenced by the vocabulary, grammar, writing style, clarity of the language used. • What are the appropriate levels of formality in email communication? • How should you address the recipient? • How should you “close” your email? • When are emoticons appropriate?:-) ;-) :-( :D :-|
