1. CLIC Magnets Catalogue Status: Alexandre Aloev, that joined our group as CLIC PJAS in March 2012, has recently completed the last missing part of the “CLIC Magnets Catalogue” evaluation concerning the Beam Delivery System. (Ref: "Preliminary Magnets Design for the CLIC Beam Delivery System (BDS). Project Breakdown Structure (PBS): 4.1"https://edms.cern.ch/document/1250188/1 ) In this Note the BDS Magnets (206 dipoles, 154 quadrupoles and 36 sextupoles with some eclusion on special cases like QD0, SD0 for which “ad hoc” studies exist or are ongoing) are analysed in terms of their 1st dimensioning, i.e. schematic design, 2D FEM magnetic analysis, mechanical dimensioning, weight, electrical and cooling power needed, etc. We estimate also the total cost for the BDS data are reported in another confidential document. To be remind that in 2011 the BDS total power and cost were evaluated in a fast way by B. Jeanneret (private communications). The two evaluation seems in good agreement; with a choice of a lower average current density (2-3 vs. 5 A/mm2) in this 2nd evaluation the total power estimation is reduced from 1.5 to 0.3 MW. (Note: the CLIC Magnets Catalogue consist now in 5 Notes that are covering all the CLIC complex from the primary Linacs(excluded) down to the IP). A. Aloev, M. 2. QD0 prototype status A. Aloev, M. Modena at: “29th MDI meeting”: 14th December 2012
Concerning QD0: noting new respect to the last report to MDI WG. Investigations about the observed discrepancy between computed and measured (gradient only with the NdFeB wedges) have not given results. We are waiting the delivery at CERN of a measuring systems for PM blocks (expected at beginning of next year) to check the conformity of these blocks. We are also considering the purchase of a new set of NdFeB blocks (asking offers). A. Aloev, M. Modena at: “29th MDI meeting”: 14th December 2012
3. Toward a design for SD0: some preliminary consideration A. Aloev, M. Modena at: “29th MDI meeting”: 14th December 2012
2. Preliminary considerations for CLIC SD0 sextupole design: “Closed yoke” version: “Open yoke” version: Main parameters: Aperture (radius): 4.3 mm Max. Achievable Sextupole gradient: 220 000 T/m2 Magnetic length 250 mm Amperturns NI 5300 Amps Coils 1010 steel yoke Permanent magnet blocks (NdFeB) Post-collision line A. Aloev, M. Modena at: “29th MDI meeting”: 14th December 2012
Maximum field in the post-collision line region is 0.24 Tesla (very similar to the value found for for QD0) SD0 powering curve By shielding the post-collision line with a high-permeability material (ex: “μ-metal” with μ ≈ 100 000), this value is reduced to about 1 Gauss Magnetic field quality (not-optimized): 1 unit @ 1.2 mm A.
