Technology in Classrooms By Danielle Benedetto CIS 105 Honors 8:00 am
Why use technology? • Help communicate with others • Encourages collaborative learning • Allows student to be active not lethargic • Helps use more than one learning style • Has programs to help with vocabulary and brings in real-life experiences ( sounds or interactive simulations)
What is being used? • Smart Boards~ • Have touch screens • Can save work done on them • Allow interaction with the students by using games off the internet
What is being used cont. • CPS responders~ • Connects to the Smart Board allowing students to interact and see results immediately. • Teachers can also print scores for each student by the number on their responder. • Can answer multiple choice and true/false questions
How does technology help? • There are games that are being used to increase language skills, math skills, grammar skills and writing skills. • Some examples of these games are: • Star falls- reading • Harcourt- Math • ClarisWorks- writing • Alpha Smarts- writing and typing
Effects of Using technology • Older Generation Teachers~ • Have hard time comprehending how to use the new programs. • Hard time adjusting to using interactive board. • Need help with gaining comfort with programs. • New Generation Teachers~ • Have easier time adjusting because they know the programs. • Have experience with technology and can help the older generation feel more comfortable.
Positives of technology in classrooms • Helps break the digital divide. • Gives kids experience with computers especially since not everyone can afford on at home. • Some schools provide a computer equipped with games for children to take home to learn on. • Kids are more motivated and want to learn because it is more exciting with the hands on experience.
Downside to technology in classrooms • COST~ • The cost of supplying enough technological equipment for all students • Not cost efficient. Light bulbs for the Smart Board are extremely expensive. • All the Smart Boards are very expensive and are now replacing the overheads and regular whiteboards. • Not very many downsides: main factor was the costliness.
Overall • Technology in school helps kids learn and absorb more • It also is helping close the gap between the teacher and their students. Teachers Students
