Advantages and Disadvantages of Spur Gear.

Spur gears are the most commonly seen common gears to transmit motion between two parallel axes, due to its shape, it is classified as a type of cylindrical gear. Since the gear tooth surface is parallel to the axis of the mounted shaft, no thrust is generated in the axial direction. In addition, due to the ease of production, these gears can be manufactured with high precision. Spur gears are used to achieve large gear ratios, slow speeds and medium speeds.

  1. Title:- Advantages and Disadvantages of Spur Gear. Spur Gear:- Spur gears are the most commonly seen common gears to transmit motion between two parallel axes, due to its shape, it is classified as a type of cylindrical gear. Since the gear tooth surface is parallel to the axis of the mounted shaft, no thrust is generated in the axial direction. In addition, due to the ease of production, these gears can be manufactured with high precision. Spur gears are used to achieve large gear ratios, slow speeds and medium speeds. This type of gears are one of the most ubiquitous gear types, but they are not perfect for all the application- then what are the advantages and disadvantages of these gears? The Pros:- There are some biggest advantages of using the spur gears:- 1.They can be used to transfer a significant amount of energy (up to approximately 50,000 KW). 2.They are very reliable. 3.This pieces are the simplest things to design and manufacture. Unit projects related to straight gears can be implemented more quickly. 4.They provide a constant and stable transmission ratio. 5.Straight gears are more efficient than helical gears of the same size. 6.The axial forces are not generated because the teeth are parallel to the axis. This allows the gear shaft to be easily mounted on a ball bearing. The Cons:- 1.These are low gears. 2.The power can’t be transferred between axes, not in parallel. 3.Straight gears make too much noise when operating at high speeds. 4.The teeth on the wheels experience a lot of stress.

  2. 5.It can’t be used to transfer energy over long distances. 6.They are not elastic compared to other types of gears
