Introduction • Born on December 12, 1915 in Hoboken New York to an Italian immigrant couple. • He was an only child. • His father, Martin Anthony, was a boxer-turned-fireman. • His mother, Natalie “Dolly”, was a former barmaid who often sang at family gatherings.
Growing Up • An accomplished all-around athlete, with a special interest in boxing • After graduating high school, he began singing in his spare time. • Began entering local talent contests
First Big Break • Sinatra and a local trio won a contest on a nationwide radio show. • Afterwards he got a Job at the Rustic Cabin where he was hired for the Harry James Orchestra. • Six months later he joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.
The Family • First wife - Nancy Barbato. They met when he was 19 in the summer of 1934.
