  1. Keeps paw pads moisturized • Apply Paw Balm or petroleum jelly before going on a walk in snow. • This helps them to avoid ice and harmful chemicals.

  2. Keep your pup hydrated • Make sure your furry friend has water available during longer walks. • This will help your pet stay hydrated.

  3. Wash your dog’s paws after walks • Dip your pet’s paw in warm water [make sure its not hot], then towel dry. • This will remove ice, salt, chemicals and any other build up.

  4. Avoid deicing agents • Clear the slushy or salty areas on walk. • Ice deicers like calcium chloride and sodium chloride can harm paws.

  5. Keep walks as short as possible  • Its best to limit their time outside in harsh weather. • Especially for senior dogs, dog breed with shorter fur, and pets with arthritis.

  6. Keep your pup’s paws well-groomed • Trimming your dog’s nail will help with stable footing. • Trimming long fur will aid with paw cleaning and make it less likely for ice balls to form between toes.

  7. Purchase dog boots or booties • Foot gears protect dog’s paw from salt, chemicals, ice. • It is important to get the right size for them to feel comfortable.

  8. Monitor your dog’s paws • Check the pads and between the toes for redness, cracks, wounds or any sign of concern. • Take notice if your pet is licking their paws a lot.
