/16 Is the Acceleration Distance Necessary? For deceleration sleds, the stopping distance is specified to ensure the consistency of test conditions. For acceleration sleds, however, the same level of consistency can be achieved by specifying requirements on initial slope of acceleration

/16 Japan’s View (R.44) • the acceleration distance provision for acceleration sleds should be deleted. • Regarding the initial slope requirement, European labs’ measurement results by deceleration sleds should be studied before finalizing the requirement
/16 Japan’s View (R.16) • The acceleration distance provision for acceleration sleds should be deleted. • It is very difficult to meet all the requirements of GRSP/2005/5 simultaneously with acceleration devices in Japan. Especially, the proposed values [5ms-10G,10ms-20G] for the sled acceleration initial slope requirement are not feasible with acceleration devices in Japan. If the values are replaced by more feasible ones on the basis of European lab’s measurement results by deceleration sleds and as a result, new values are feasible with acceleration sleds (ex. 7.5ms-10G and 12.5 ms-0G), Japan would accept them
/16 Japan’s View (R.16)
/16 Conclusion • the acceleration distance provision for acceleration sleds should be deleted • the initial slope requirement should be finalized in consideration of European labs’ measurement results. Especially for R16 special attention should be given from the viewpoint of feasibility to the values.
