Fume Hood Standard Operating Procedures 1. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES! 2. Keep sashes and hood countertop clean -- wash them regularly! 2. Keep all sashes closed exceptwhen actually manipulating objects within the hood. 3.If vertical sash is open then horizontal sashes must be closed (in an overlapping manner). 4. Do not operate hood with vertical sash higher than 18” (except during set-up/take-down). 5. If any horizontal sash is open then vertical sash must be completely down. 6. Position horizontal sash in front of you so that it acts as a safety shield. IfHoodAlarmActivates: • It indicates an improper exhaust flow. • Close sashes completely. Contact the stockroom manager or CHO immediately. You may mute the alarm ONLY if sash is in full upright position during equipment set-up / removal. EmergencyExhaust If a spill occurs inside hood then press this button to increase exhaust flow Sashes closed Sashes not closed HorizontalSashes: Must be closed so that the sashes overlap each other. To Place Hood in Energy-Saving Mode: 1. Press “Emergency Exhaust” & “Mute” buttons simultaneously. Hold for 3-5 seconds. 2. A flashing “oFF?” will appear. 3. Press the “Mute” button. 4. The hood will enter stand-by mode; you will hear the exhaust flow decrease. 1. 2. 3. 4. ToReturnHoodtoOperatingMode: Simply open any sash; allow airflow rate to stabilize around 60 fpm (takes ca. 3 seconds)
