Thomas Tusser, a poet and farmer, Tusser's use of the phrase is different than how we know it today. The modern wording of the saying was used fourteen years later in 1587 by Dr. John Bridges, a bishop, when he said: "If they pay a penie or two pence more for the reddinesse of them... let them looke to that, a foole and his money is soone parted.“ By: Joseph
