  2. Setting the StageFelix Ankel • Positioning EM Residency as a Strategic Asset • Goal is to develop a dashboard of outcomes for phase III and IV outcome project that is consistent with hospital quality goals

  3. Setting the StageDavid Griffen • Overview of outcome project • Work so far • Importance and feasibility • Hospital and residency perspectives about outcomes • Outcomes are data to be analyzed and explained • Can we develop outcomes of resident/residency involvement and effectiveness in process improvement?

  4. Setting the StageEric Peterson • Learning to speak “hospital” • Value = Quality/Cost • ED throughputs will be a reported outcome • Sample Residency Dashboard

  8. DiscussionFelix Ankel • Advantages of positioning GME as a strategic asset • “Residency Quality Officer” = Assistant Residency Coordinator • Potential mixed messages to residents when looking at throughput times and patients per hour • Issues with attribution • Potential problems getting certain hospital data

  9. Specific Outcomes

  10. Additional Outcomes • Pain management • Time to management, effectiveness of management • Peer-reviewed publications • Number of charts down-coded • Documenting re-assessment • pain • Interventions • Etc.

  11. Idea • Create a longitudinal administrative curriculum over 3 years with specific goals, objectives, and evaluations. • Understand complex hospital systems • Process improvement

  12. Concern • Big group concern is heterogeneity among residency programs. How do you compare quality measures across programs? • Maybe dashboards as external comparisons are not going to work right now. • All quality is local

  13. Possible Dashboard Format

  14. Wrap-Up • Dashboards are here • CORD can take the leadership in developing dashboards for residencies • Practical reasons to align strategic priorities with our partners • Not yet ready for a universal dashboard • Sharing data • Develop menu of outcomes and sample dashboards • Collaboration
