  2. We all have seen presentations about the risks of driving a vehicle under the influence. Putting yourself or others in danger is a very real threat.But that is not what this lesson is about. This lesson is about the options you have to avoid the situation, and also financial consequences of getting a DWI.

  3. What are some problems associated with getting a DWI? • Arrested! • Parents disappointed! • Police record! • Lose your license! • Lose your job; hard to find another one! • Hurts your reputation! • Expensive!

  4. How much does it cost? • About $10,000

  5. Here’s the breakdown: • Bail: $150-2,500 • Towing: $100-$1,200 • Insurance: $4,500 • Legal Fees: $2,000-$25,000 • Fines: $300-$1,200 • Alcohol Evaluation (required for every person who is convicted for DWI): $181 • Alcohol Education and Treatment: $350-$1,200 • License Reinstatement Fees: $60-$250 • Additional Fees (Jail Filing Fee, Victim Assistance Fund, Law Enforcement Fund, etc…) $308 and up

  6. And this is how expensive it is if you don’t hit someone or get in an accident!

  7. So, what options work best for you? • Call home and see if your parents can give you a lift. • Taxi – If you call a cab, they aren’t going to call the police on you or your friends. • Square Patrol – They drive you home in your own car!
