  2. God’s Crowning Creation • 1. All creation up to this point has been a prelude to what would happen at the end of day six • The creation of the human race was the central feature of God’s creative purpose from the beginning • Everything else was created for humanity • Everything was made to prepare a perfect environment for Adam and Eve

  3. God’s Crowning Creation • 2. Humanity is the center of God’s purpose for the entire universe • How do we know this? • The Bible says that everything else will go out of existence • Mark 13:24-25 • Revelation 6:13-14 • 2 Peter 2:10 • Matthew 24:35

  4. God’s Crowning Creation • 2. Humanity is the center of God’s purpose for the entire universe • Revelation 21:8 • Why did God create humanity? • To glorify Him • To enjoy Him forever

  5. God’s Crowning Creation • 3. People are God’s most cherished creation • We are supremely valued by God • We must not demean God’s handiwork • Psalm 8 • Human life is precious • Psalm 139 • Life is not a game

  6. God’s Crowning Creation • 4. Adam was specially and personally created by God • Mankind did not evolve from some already existing form of animal life • Genesis 2:7, 2:22 • Adam- a direct act of God’s creation • Eve- a direct act of God’s creation

  8. God’s Crowning Creation • 6. There was a great difference between all other creation and the creation of mankind • Genesis 1:26 compared to 1:3,6,9,11,14,20,24 • “Let there be…” • “Let the earth bring forth” • “Let the waters…” • New in 1:26- • “Let us make man in our image…”

  10. God’s Crowning Creation • 7. God’s personal pronouns in Genesis 1:26 are plural • “Let us” • “Our image” • “Our likeness” • This is the first major, unmistakable evidence of the Trinity • Also in the first 25 verses of Genesis chapter one, God’s Name Elohim is used 21 times

  13. God’s Crowning Creation • 9. What does it mean to be created in the image of God? • “In our image” • “According to our likeness” • This is a highly significant position- Psalm 8 • This is not a state into which lower creatures can evolve

What does it mean to be created in the image of God? • Being created in the image and likeness of God sets mankind apart from all other creation • Only humanity is created in the image of God • Image of God means- • Man’s spiritual nature • Our spiritual attributes

  15. God’s Crowning Creation • 9. What does it mean to be created in the image of God? • Our self-consciousness • Our moral consciousness • Our consciousness of others and other creations • Our consciousness of God • (Animals are conscious of their environment, but not of morality or God)

Our awareness of God’s attributes and our ability to learn about and comprehend them is unique to mankind • As human beings we have the ability to make moral choices that determine the direction of our lives • God’s desire for us- • “To choose to have a personal relationship forever with Him” • -Remember Revelation 21

  19. God’s Crowning Creation • 11. God never exaggerates • He doesn’t overstate our value • He doesn’t overstate the impact of our choices • He doesn’t overstate the awful consequences of unforgiven sin • He doesn’t overstate the wonders of heaven • 1 Corinthians 2:9
