  2. Soccer • Germany loves soccer, they love it as much and possibly even more than Americans love baseball. • They consider it there national Sport.

  3. Appearance of Soccer • First in 1900

  4. World War 1 and 2 • Soccer players suffered because many of them had to fight in both Wars. • After both Wars it was hard to get a team back together. • When Germany was divided East and West – It was “West Germany” that became known as the German soccer team

  5. World Cups • First World Cup win was in 1954. • Also won in 1974 and 1990 • 1st World Cup Germany vs. Hungry – Germany wins • 1974- Germany vs. Costa Rica • 1990- Germany vs. Australia • One of the goals scored by Germany

  6. Famous Players • Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Karl-Hein Rummenigge • All of these players made their appearances in World Cups.

  7. Franz Beckenbauer • A great captain for his team. • Led his team to many European Cups and World Cups. • Awarded the European Footballer of the Year twice, in 1972 and 1976.

  8. Gerd Müller • Has been in 74 European Cups • Holds a record of having 66 goals total from all tournament games.

  9. Karl-Heinz Rummen • Has been to many World Cups and other tournaments • Scored about 162 goals totaled out of 310 league games

  11. Other Famous Players • Lothar Matthaus and Jurgen Klinsmann • Lothar Matthaus was a tad bit like Franz Beckenbauer, but was also very different. He's know for playing in many World Cups and European Cups. He has played in no less than 5 World Cups and 4 European Cups, which is more than any other outfield or midfielder in the history of Germany. • Jurgen Klinsmann he was a man that kept his team working. He was a striker or as we call it today, a Forward. He had a keep-going attitude and never let his team down.
