Perimeter: The sum of the side lengths of a polygon • Area: The number of square units enclosed by a polygon • What is a square unit?
Square • Perimeter= 4s (s=side length) • Area=s2
Rectangle • Perimeter= 2L+2W • Area=L(W)
Circle • Circumference= 2r, r=radius • Or D, D=diameter, why? • Area=πr2
Postulate 1-9: • If 2 figures are congruent, then their areas are equal • Postulate 1-10: • The area of a region is the sum of the areas of its nonoverlapping parts.
