  24. THE CALL ! Today, the situation of the poor seems hopeless. But in a way, the poor, tagged by many well-meaning individuals as “our less fortunate brethren” are in a way more fortunate than us. This is because the poor, shunned by society and with no one or nothing to depend on, have nowhere else to turn to but God. And because God indeed loves them, their very hope is in God. We, as followers of God, are also called to love the poor. We need to understand that our very faith and life as believers is intimately connected to the poor. Remember that it is not only the rich helping the poor but it is the poor likewise helping the rich. The poor are crucial to our relationship with God. The poor are a blessing to the rich in much the same manner that the rich are blessing to the poor. We call on all to take this opportunity.
