EMPIRE STATE BULIDING • The Empire State Building is located in Manhattan, New York City. • It was the tallest building in the world for nearly 40 years with 102 stories in it. • It is 1,454 feet or 443.2 metres high. • On July 28th 1945 a plane crashed into the 79th and 80th floors of the building. • The Empire State building was the first ever building to have more than 100 floors.

EIFFEL TOWER • The Eiffel Tower is located in Paris in France. • The Eiffel Tower was named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel who’s company also built the tower. • Construction of the Eiffel Tower started on the 28th January 1887 and opened on the 31st of March 1889 • The Eiffel Tower is 324 metres high. • The tower received its 250 millionth visitor in 2010.

Washington Monument • The Washington Monument was built to commemorate George Washington. • It is made of marble granite and bluestone gneiss and is the world’s tallest stone structure in the world standing at 555 feet. • It started construction in 1848 and was halted for 23 years from 1854 to 1877. It was finally built in 1884. • The Washington Monument is located in Washington D.C. In the United States of America.

  8. The Great Pyramids of Egypt • The Egyptian pyramids are located on the outskirts of Cairo in Egypt. • The Egyptian pyramids were made for the pharaohs of Egypt. • The pyramids are the oldest man made structures in the world. • The most famous pyramids are the pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

TajMahal • Shah J ahan built the tajmahal in the 17th century in memory of his wife MumtazMahal. • It took 20 years to build the TajMahal . • He chopped off the workers hands so they could not recreate the TajMahal . • The TajMahal was made with white marble WITH precious gems and stone embedded in its walls

  12. Hagiasophia • Hagia Sophia began as a church later becoming a mosque. • The Hagia Sophia is now a national museum. • When the church was turned into a mosque they removed the alter,the bells,sacraficial vessels as well as the iconostasis(a wall of icons and religious paintings)

Originally, The Great Tower Of Pisa was built as a bell tower for the cathedral in Pisa. • The leaning side of the tower stands at 187.27 feet the high side of the tower stands at 186 feet . • It took 344 years to build, beginning in August 1173. It began leaning in 1178 because one side start to sink into soft ground. • The construction of the tower was held up twice, the first time for 100 years because of a war the second in 1284.

The people have suggested that the tower be straightened but the people of Pisa said they would rather see it fall as its the leaning tower of Pisa for a reason. • In 2008 engineers stated that the tower had stopped moving . • Since the tower was built not one person has been able to identify who the actual architect was. • The Leaning Tower of Pisa became a UNESCO world heritage site in 1987.
