THE SUN BEAMS The sun beams more directly toward Southern Hemisphere until March 21 but this balance becomes equal on March 21 and changes in the favor of Northern Hemisphereafter March 21. Therefore, some communities living in North Hemisphere accepts Nevruz as wakening up,resurrection and creation day, and celebrate under the name “Nevruz/New Day Feast”.
TRADITIONS ON NEVRUZ DAY • On themorning of thisday, peopledrinkmilkaftertheguide has readprayers. TheyreadpoemscalledNevruziye.Theyvisitgraveswithpastriesthathavebeenpreparedearlierandeatthesethere.
Not only Nevruz Day, but also Nevruz Night has a heavenlysignificanceforthepeople of EasternAnatolia. It is believedthatallcreaturesandthingsprostratethemselvesbeforeGod on thisnight. Thatday, everyindividual’sfortuneandfutureforthenextyear is set out. Peopleprepareforthenewyearbywearingnewandbeautifulclothes. Mealsarecooked in thehome, andmutualvisitstakeplace.
ANOTHER TRADITIONS On Nevruz Day, people lay their tables with an assortment of foodstuffs, play games, hold festivities, eat painted eggs and prepare large fires.
NEVRUZ IN OUR SCHOOLS • Nevruz, one of Turkey’sseasonalfestivals, is activelycelebrated in thecountry. Peoplepreparebeforehandfor Nevruz celebrations in villagesandsmalltownsandalsoschools. Thesepreparationsconcernkidgames,preparation of foodsanddrinksandgoingtopicnics.
GARDEN GAMES Nevruz is a very variating feest, its traditional and fun and some games you can play during Nevruz are:
FACE PAINTING Teacher of the 1/D class,has paintedthefaces of her students.
CHAIR CONTEST The students of 1/C made chair contest. When the music stopped, childrens tried to catch the empty chairs.
KITE FEAST Our Studens fly kites which are called "bayrak" (flag).
SACK CONTEST Inthiscontestthechildrenwearsuck and try to jump and get the finish
Grass men Ourstudents put thesomesoilintothewomansocks, thentheyaddsomeseedontothesoil. After days the grasses growed
After all these activities; In the evening, neighbours and relatives continue with their eating and drinking, fun and talks. This goes on all night. During this holiday everybody is cheerful. The mistakes are foregiven. Participation in the celebrations is mandatory and those who don't, are excluded by the village folk.
