The target audience for this tutorial is for individuals who have just purchased a TI-nspire handheld with touchpad and would like to learn how to use basic features of the key pad and Scratchpad windows. While working through this ten minute tutorial you should have your handheld readily accessible to practice with. Click here to continue

Part I Key Pad Features
This part will introduce you to basic features of the key pad.
On / Home If you ever get lost in the scratchpad or documents…just push this button to bring you back to the home screen.
Toggles secondary key functions Secondary key features can be located by looking above each button.
Execution key Press this key when you are ready to execute a mathematical operation or other feature.
Part I Quiz If you get lost in the different menus, documents or in the scratchpad, what is the best key to push? ON/HOME ctrl enter esc
Part II Using the scratchpad
The home screen: Calculate Scratchpad
Calculate Scratchpad This screen allows you to use the operators in your handheld just like any other calculator.
The home screen: Graphing Scratchpad
Try some graphing… This Scratchpad will allow you to access any graphing features of the handheld. Enter your functions into this entry box.
Part II Quiz You would use the graph Scratchpad to multiply numbers together. TRUE FALSE
Part III More key pad features
This portion of the tutorial will introduce five more important features of the key pad.
Touchpad The touchpad works on the same principle as the mouse touchpad on a laptop. Use the onscreen “mouse” cursor to access menus and to grab and manipulate objects.
Escape key Allows you to back track through menus and window, one at a time, until you are back at the home screen.
Alphabet keys Major variables are outlined at the bottom for algebraic calculations. Note: the keyboard is not in QWERTY.
Part III Quiz Is the alphabet keyboard set up in a QWERTY style? YES NO
