GOALS OF HUNTING PROGRAM • Maintain a healthy deer population that doesn’t present a hazard to the mission • Supports BASH program • Provides recreation for hunters • Reduces need for depredation hunts • Reduces tick population • Reduces deer/car collisions • Population goal is 250 deer

HUNTER SAFETY • You are responsible for your actions while • hunting on base • Think & practice safety • Remember just one mistake could be fatal • and ruin the privilege of hunting on base • for everybody
PREVENT HUNTING MISHAPS • Take a hunter’s safety course -- http://www.agfc.state.ar.us • Wear blaze orange • Assume firearms are loaded • Be sure of your target • If in doubt do not shoot • Lock up your guns • Separate guns and ammo Picture from AGFC website

WHO CAN HUNT AT LRAFB ? • Active duty/dependents • DoD employees • DoD retirees • Guests of all the above • Guests must be in general vicinity (same hunting area) • Member is allowed and responsible for one guest
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO HUNT AT LRAFB ? • A copy of the base hunting rules and map • Arkansas hunting license • A base hunting permit • Vehicle parking permit card • Read Hunting Rules/Safety briefing • All the above can be obtained at https://littlerock.isportsman.net • Born after 1968 – hunter safety course
BASE HUNTING PERMITS • $40 E-7 and above and guests; $20 E-6 and below and civilian equivalent. Dependents pay the same price of their sponsor. All guests pay $10.

WHAT WEAPONS CAN I USE ON LRAFB ? • Shotgun w/slugs (NO Buckshot) • Muzzleloader • Archery (bow or crossbow) • Rifles and handguns are not authorized
WHAT CAN I HUNT ON LRAFB ? • Any game in season for our zone • Deer (no dogs allowed) • Rabbit (no dogs allowed) • Squirrel/quail (dogs are allowed if controlled) • No hunting at night
WHAT CAN I HUNT ON LRAFB ? • Pay attention to zones and bag limits • Legal buck – Three Point Rule: both antlers shorter than 2 inches (button bucks) or have 3 or more points on one side of rack • Youths 6 – 15 years of age may take any buck without regard for antler restrictions • Turkey zone 7A – no fall turkey season • References: AGFC Hunting Regulations on-line.
WHAT CAN I HUNT ON LRAFB ? • Must kill and check a doe before first buck • Does not apply to hunters under 16 • Can’t check first doe and buck together • Doe before buck rule reduces number of smaller bucks breeding with less does • This should lead to bigger bucks • Helps us reduce the number of deer
UNWANTED ANIMALS • Coyotes • Feral Hogs • Kill on sight
FERAL HOGS • Serious BASH and ecological issue • All will be shot or, trapped and then killed • If you’re hunting please kill all hogs you see • No live hogs will be brought on base or taken off base • Dead hogs disposed of immediately to avoid attracting vultures • Report sightings and killings to Natural Resources Manager, 987-3681
GOOD MANAGEMENT • DO NOT SHOOT BUTTON BUCKS or FAWNS WITH SPOTS or DOES with FAWNS WITH SPOTS • DO NOT SHOOT LITTLE DOES • They might be a button buck

BAG LIMIT – Deer Zone 10 • Zone Limit: Four deer, no more than two legal bucks. No more than two legal • bucks or up to four does may be taken with archery tackle. • No more than two legal bucks and up to two does may be taken during • muzzleloader and modern gun seasons combined. • Bow hunters may harvest deer according to archery limits during open firearms • season, but must wear hunter orange.
SIGN-IN PROCEDURES • All hunters must sign-in and out each hunting session at law enforcement desk, bldg 481 • Hunting day split into morning and afternoon hunts. No sign-in before 0430 • After 1200 all must sign-out afternoon sign-in starts at 1300 • Hunters will not “sign-in” to more than one area unless small game hunting
SIGN-IN PROCEDURES CONT • First-come-first-serve basis • Parents/children under 16 count as one hunter • Both must sign-in and hunt together • All hunters in a party must sign-individually

ON-BASE HUNTING AREAS • When you sign-in at Bldg 481 check to see which • areas are closed before each hunt • No gun hunting in archery only areas • No hunting within 200 yards of another hunter • Small game hunting is allowed in all gun areas from 1 Sep • to 30 Sep and 1 Dec to 28 Feb except during deer gun • season.
ON-BASE HUNTING AREAS CONT. • Area 6 – due to runway construction this area is limited for hunting. The northern portion has been changed to bow only. There is no hunting within 200 ft of the “East-West” road. • Watch for “no personnel beyond this point” signs in Area 17 • If caught in a closed or off-limits area your hunting privileges will be revoked

LEGAL HUNTING TIMES • Allowed in woods one hour prior to official sunrise • and one hour after official sunset • No movement from (30 minutes before sunrise) • until 0900 and from 1700 until (30 minutes after • sunset) except to retrieve game
VEHICLES • No ATV’s or driving off road • Obey all no POV signs and never block any road • with your vehicle
STANDS • No permanent stands • No spikes, nails or screws • Must have owner’s name, phone number, and date • placed in woods at eye level • Any stand found without this info will be removed • Only two stands per hunter may be left in the woods
STANDS CONT. • Hunters are not allowed to hang stands until 1 Aug • All scouting, stand prep, and stand placement must be completed by 1 Nov • No scouting during any deer gun season
AIRFIELD • Never cross or touch electric fence. If your wounded deer • goes inside this area contact Base Ops ( 987-6123) and • Security Forces (987-3221) • Violators will lose hunting privileges.
WOUNDED DEER • You may track wounded deer up to one hour • after sunset with a weapon. • After one hour you must come out of the woods • to store your weapon in your car, a friend’s • house or SF armory. • If caught in the woods 1 hr after sunset with a • weapon it will be considered hunting at night.

MISCELLANEOUS RULES • Stay out of peoples yards when hunting areas 21, • 22, and 25 • All deer or turkeys killed on base must be • checked in at the Law Enforcement desk within 4 • hours of the kill • Do not check-in deer or turkey from off-base
CHECKING DEERCall It In and Log It • Tag your deer before you move it • Check your deer at the SFS Front Desk before • moving it to base housing or off base • Check your deer with AGFC also
HUNTING SAFETY • Wear your hunter orange • Identify your target • Never shoot at movement • If hunting from the ground, protect your back • All deer hunters using guns must hunt from an elevated • stand at least 10 feet off the ground except during youth • hunts

HUNTING SAFETY • Let other hunters know your position • No weapons will be shot or fired within 50 yards • of any fence, road, boundary, or building • In areas 21, 22 and 25 you must hunt a • minimum of 100 yards from tree line (housing • area) • In area 23 you must hunt no closer than 100 • yards north of Arnold Dr Elementary School
HUNTING SAFETY • In area 24 no weapons will be shot or fired within 100 yards of the Boy Scout area, nature trail, or Fam Camp • Weapons will not be shot within 1,250 feet of munitions storage area or operational storage area (area’s 6, 7, 8, 12, 14, 19 and 20)
BAITING • Baiting/feeding deer is authorized in all hunting areas, from 1 Aug until 15 Jan • Baiting/feeding in areas 18A and 18B may only be conducted in the northern most point of shooting lanes to minimize wildlife proximity to the assault zone and approach end of Runway 25 • Hunting turkey over bait is illegal
HOME ON LEAVE • Military personnel on leave from an overseas duty station may hunt on-base for free. All they need is a copy of their leave orders and military ID.
SPRING TURKEY SEASON • Spring turkey season has a different map of hunting areas and different rules. A new briefing is required for that season.

LEAVE NO TRACE • Please don’t litter • Please pick up your shell cases and other litter • Leave the woods just as nice as you found them • Carry a small trash bag with you in the woods • If illegal dumping is found please call Lynn Shaw • at 987-8135
