  2. What we do • Reduce the use of custody and encourage better use of prevention activities and robust alternatives to custody that may provide better outcomes for young people. • The key aims are to: • Reduce the use of youth custody, in order to contribute to savings across the youth secure estate. • Improve outcomes for young people who offend. • Strengthen the local authority’s accountability for young people in custody and the contributions that the authority makes to preventing offending and reducing reoffending.

  3. Referrals Entry Points Referrals & Assessment Referrals are taken via G02-06 system and screened/prioritised Cleveland Police and South Tees Youth Offending Service in agreement with the referral process Assessment/screening tools completed • Custody Suite / CJLS (adult MH) • G 02-06 • South Tees Youth Offending Service

  4. What we offer • A full social and mental health screening and wellbeing assessment, which may take place whilst the young person is in the community in various locations, including home, health centres, and youth services. • Consideration is given to risk taking behaviour and vulnerability factors of a young person who may come into contact with the Criminal Justice System.

  5. What we offer • We help to gain access to specialist services that can provide the right kind of help that a young person may need and identify areas of concern where our service can provide support. • We aim to reduce the risk of future offending and avoid future harm, by tackling problems that may lead young people to encounter difficulties with the law. • Liaison with South Tees YOS and Tier 2/Tier 3 CAMHS.

  6. How Does it Work? • Built on already firmly established relationships/ Protocols with partner agencies: • Social care • Police • Housing • YP drugs & alcohol services, etc. • Adult CJLS • Service Level Agreement with South Tees Youth Offending Service since 2004. • Health Professional Role

  7. Why it Works . . . • The bringing together of already established multi-agency teams; • Specialist CAMHS - Adolescent Forensic Service (AFS) • South Tees Youth Offending Service • Effective protocols • Flexible working • Not being tied to specific roles • Responsive • To all levels of offending not just first time entrants
