  3. The Great Awakening The Great Awakening took place in the 1730’s. It is the religious movement that priests preached them to the people outside of church.

  4. The Church The Church had a “Seating Committee” that specifically assigned seats for the people. The elders and wealthy had the best seats. Puritans came by homes to make sure everybody was at church. They would even go as far as to walk inside their homes and look for them.

  5. Church Services The people went to church, came back to eat lunch, and went back to church. The church services were held in the town meeting house. Services could last as long as five hours.

  7. Slaves came from West Africa. The Southern Colonies had more slaves than the Northern Colonies because it was cheaper to hire and assistant than to own a slave. The slaves did more than just farm work, they did work such as blacksmithing, midwife, drivers, carpenters, and more. Slaves didn’t have the chance to move up in society. They grew many cash crops. Slave ships were terrible to be on because lots of people died.
