Mutationshttp://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/article/mutations_03Mutationshttp://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/article/mutations_03 • Nondisjunction – failure of chromosomes to separate • Results in aneuploidy, an abnormal # of chromosomes ex. Trisomy, monosomy • Deletion- • a part of the chromosome is missing ex. Cri du chat • One base or multiple bases are deleted, leads to a frameshift • Insertion- a base or multiple bases are added or repeated, leads to a frameshift • Inversion- a segment of the chromosome has been reversed • Translocation- part of a chromosome breaks off and joins up with a nonhomologous chromosome • Base substitution- one base pair has been substituted with another, this does not always change the amino acid being coded for. When it does it is referred to as a point mutation like the one that causes Sickle Cell http://sickle.bwh.harvard.edu/scd_background.html
