  7. Student investment -Student leadership is a major component to ACE. -ACE has an active student government, elected by their peers. -The students created their own rules, mascot, motto, school colors, and mission statement.

  8. “Prowl to Excel: determined to succeed” ACE is a community of students whose mission is to reach their maximum potential in academic excellence through a higher expectation of learning. This safe and secure environment provides the opportunity for self-discovery and the development of critical thinking skills to become productive and successful citizens.

The differences at Ace from Ombudsmen • Ace has more teachers who provide individual help. • Ace school has more classrooms and a cafeteria. • Students stay all day instead of three hours a day. • ACE offers a variety of classes and electives, not just computer instruction. • ACE has structured assistance for ED Options.

Students go on field trips and reward trips . • Students set their own goals and evaluates themselves. • If students get in trouble the administration tries to figure out the real problem versus suspension. • Ace offers a variety of ways to get credits. • The faculty stays at least 2 nights a week for night class 4- 7 p.m.

  15. Academic • Students can make up credits needed to graduate in a faster amount of time. • More academic attention is available because of the small classes. • Students stay focused on work. • Each student has their own unique schedule.

  16. Class Learning & Field trip

  17. Options • ACE helps those in tough situations, you have an opportunity to be allowed to obtain your school education. • This can be someone’s only chance to graduate (making up credits).

The good stuff • ACE has rotations which teaches students how to work with other people. • The students also get hands on activities and one-on-one learning with their teachers. • Ed Options is a manageable way to obtain credits for the classes you need. • The average student has two periods a day for Ed Options and six periods of more traditional instruction. • High School students serve as “math peer- teachers” for middle school students.

  19. The good stuff • Instruction is “spiraled” allowing multiple levels to be taught in one subject. Students perform based on the grade/level they are versus a “one-size” fits all. • ACE has a flexible, rotating schedule, to encourage better attendance and reduce class failures. • One block course is offered per semester to allow a full credit in that particular course.

  22. Ace requests • Obtaining a basketball court. • Science Lab materials – can be shared from feeder schools? • Early confirmation that ACE will retain our current location for school year 2011-2012. • Limited use of 24 credit option.

Graduation RequirementsFlorida Department of Ed. • Four (4) credits in English, with a major concentration in composition, reading for information, and literature. • Four (4) credits in mathematics, one of which must be Algebra I, a series equivalent to Algebra I, or a high-level mathematics course. • Three (3) credits in science, two of which must have a laboratory component. • 16 core curriculum credits

State requirements(cont.) • Three (3) credits in social studies as follows: one (1) credit in American history; one (1) credit in world history; one-half credit in economics; and one-half credit in American Government. • One (1) credit in fine arts. • One (1) credit in physical education to include integration of health.

  25. Waive Classes not on the List IF…. • The student enters ACE in his cohort senior year. • The student earns at least 10.5 credits in that current year. • The student maintains a 3.0 while at ACE. • The student works diligently on successfully completing all of Monroe County School District’s graduation requirements as outlined in the Student Progression Plan. This would be over and above the state’s minimum requirements.
