Using Review 360 to create Behavior Intervention Plans Jose Chacon 4/20/13 EDTC 3332 Instructional Technology Practicum
Needs Assessment: • Students with behavior issues score lower on State Assessments, District benchmarks and teacher formative exams. Many at-risk students with discipline issues are easily distracted, have short attention spans and are hyper active. The state assessments are timed with a four hour time limit. If students meet specific criteria, they get extended time up to the end of the school day. However, students need to be disciplined in the classroom so that they take advantage of teachers’ instruction and not interrupt classroom disruption.
Needs Assessment: • Schools need their faculty and staff to work as a team of interventionists. They need help in monitoring student academics and behavior. They also need opportunities to document progress and meet with parents on a regular basis, discuss progress monitoring and set up goals. Unfortunately, teachers do not get enough training on how to manage discipline concerns. Professional development takes place mostly on core subject areas, research-based teaching techniques and resources. Teachers need resources and support on how to deal with students that display behavior issues and disrupt classroom instruction.
Needs Assessment: • Teachers need to use the Review 360 online program to create response to intervention plans that addresses specific behavior issues. They will be able to view behavior modules, set up RTI referrals, and create a student support plan to set up behavior objectives that will be monitored for a particular student that will be targeted. • Training teachers on Review 360 will help them to make individualized behavior plans for students exhibiting discipline issues. Students will also benefit from this training because they will learn how to respond to situations that trigger their behavior and prevent an incident from occurring.
Instructional Goal: • After completing this training, teachers will be able to create Behavior Support Plans using Review 360 online program.
Performance Objectives: • Objective #1 Using Review 360, (CN), the learner will learn how to view behavior modules for an overview of specific behavior concerns (B) with no errors (CR). • Objective #2 Using Review 360, (CN), the learner will create a student support plan for targeted behavior concerns (B) with no errors (CR). • Objective #3 Using Review 360, (CN), the learner will create an RTI referral including targeted objectives (B) with no errors (CR).
Learner Characteristics: • The target audience for this web-based training will be regular education teachers that teach from 6th to 12th grade at secondary schools (middle and high schools). • The learners will possess basic computer skills to run a desktop and/or laptop PC computer and also to navigate the Internet. • Additional information that would be necessary for the design of the training module would be what specific behavior issues need to be addressed in the behavior intervention plan.
Learning Context: • The intended instructional setting will be primarily in the workplace setting, specifically in a regular education classroom in a middle school. • A campus computer in a middle school with Internet access, such as in a computer lab or a library computer, will also meet the training requirements. • If time constraints and work-related responsibilities do not permit access at the workplace, then a computer with Internet access outside the workplace such as a home computer will do.
Training Module Outline: • Introduction: (a) Overview of Training Welcome to this online training. You will learn how to create behavior plans and design your own behavior intervention plan. (b) Statement of Goal and Objectives After completing this online tutorial you will be able to: • Identify strategies to target specific behavior concerns. • Start with viewing behavior modules. • Create student support plans to score intervention plans and select strategies tip sheets. • Create RTI referrals to monitor interventions. • Enhance learning in their classrooms and minimize classroom disruptions due to behavior issues.
Training Module Outline: (c) What does the Online Training include? • The online tutorial consists of 3 lessons. • At the end of each lesson you will be able to practice and reinforce what you have learned by completing practice quizzes and activities. • At the end of the training, you will be given additional resources to help you with behavior intervention plans. • Also, you will be provided instructions on how to submit an example of your behavior intervention plan and feedback on the online training.
Training Module Outline: • Lesson 1: Behavior Modules (a) The learner will be provided an overview of the main features in Review 360. (b) The learner will understand how to find the modules for general information on behavior issues. (c) To reinforce learning, the learner will practice identifying the different components of causes, missteps and strategies for behavior that are displayed on the screen with a labeling exercise.
Training Module Outline: • Lesson 2: Starting the Behavior Intervention Plan: A Step-by-Step Guide on how to create a Student Support plan using Text and Screenshots. (a) The learner will select a plan and modify the start date, scoring frequency, tracking, and strategy ratings. (b) The learner will add, remove and modify objectives by using the navigation tree and selecting a category to display a list of objectives. (c) The learner will select recommended strategies to add to the plan. (d) The learner will score the plan by rating the strategy’s effectiveness.
Training Module Outline: • Lesson 3: Creating an RTI referral using Text and Screenshots. (a) The learner will understand how to create RTI referrals to refer students to services. (b) RTI referrals that are created will be approved or denied by an administrator.
Training Module Outline: Assessment: • The final assessment will consist of the learner submitting a Student Support Plan, which includes objectives and strategies that will be used to target student behavior. A rubric containing all the essential elements provided in the online training will be used to assess the learner’s knowledge.
Instructional Resources: The materials needed to participate in the training are the following: • Hardware: computer, Internet access. • Access to Review 360 online program. • Student behavior notes on areas that need to be addressed such as frequency of behavior.
Formative Evaluation: • A behavior intervention special education teacher will serve as a Subject Matter Expert in reviewing the different components of the behavior intervention plan. An administrator in charge of discipline will serve as a peer reviewer and evaluate the effectiveness of the training program in this project. • I will rely on the feedback provided by both reviewers to make appropriate changes to the online tutorial.
Summary • The proposed online instructional tutorial will provide teachers an opportunity create behavior intervention plans using the Review 360 online program. A behavior intervention plan will help teachers analyze and monitor student behaviors and will help with classroom management. This will allow teachers to put systems in place that will motivate students to behave appropriately and gain more from classroom instruction.
