Johnny Monsarrat Publishes "Blind in 90 Minutes" on Being Trapped on a Mountain at Night (1888PressRelease) Johnny Monsarrat, founder and first CEO of Turbine, Inc., publishes his intriguing story of survival in below freezing weather. Boston, MA-NH - Johnny Monsarrat had no flashlight, no shelter, and no cell phone, and had to survive below freezing weather. The sun having set, he had 90 minutes before absolute darkness would leave him blind. The story of the DotCom entrepreneur, whose videogames company Turbine Inc. was acquired by Warner Brothers for $160M, has been released on the Internet as a preface to his forthcoming book, Soulburners. Johnny Monsarrat was quick to warn against the situation that landed him in on a mountain after dark. "No one should ever do what I did," he said. "I was prepared for a day trek, and thought I had plenty of time because of moonlight, but when clouds descended, I realized I was wrong." Monsarrat did not have a cell phone because he was traveling in Europe and his American phone would not have worked there. Being well above the treeline, he had no shelter from the icy wind. "What I did have," Johnny Monsarrat continued, "was 90 minutes. When I finally reached the mountain peak and realized how much trouble I was in, the sun had just set. So what I did in those next few minutes while I could see would make the difference to whether I survived night on the mountain. Johnny Monsarrat published the story online rather than include it in his book as a teaser. The forthcoming book "Soulburners" is the story of his setting five world records through a community art project. In it, he tells a follow-on story to "Blind in 90 Minutes" called "Deep Snow", in which, a decade later, he was again trapped on a mountain at night, this time with his girlfriend and in deep snow.
"That's the bigger story that 'Blind in 90 Minutes' leads to," Johnny Monsarrat said. Readers who enjoy his preface will be eagerly awaiting the book.
