It only takes one person to change the world. • Do not need to be rich Greg Mortenson was nearly broke when he first started helping the people of Korphe. • Any help is appreciated You do not need to take on a project as huge as building a school to help. Pennies for Peace is a great example of this.
Haji Ali’s Lessons • Haji Ali was Greg Mortenson’smentor on his projects in Pakistan. He taught Mortensonmany life lessons in his lifetime. • 1. Have Patience • This was very important for Mortenson to learn during the building of the Korphe School. There were many setbacks and progress was slow which frustrated Mortenson.
Haji Ali Continued • 2. Muslims are NOT all Terrorists • Mortenson begins to understand Islam in his time in Pakistan largely because of his time with Haji Ali. Haji Ali and the Korphe village are very caring people. • 3. Uneducated does not mean dumb • Though Haji Ali could not read or write, he was very wise. From life experiences Haji Ali was a very smart man and was able to teach Mortenson much.
Never Give Up Greg Mortenson faced a lot of challenges throughout his work in trying to educate Pakistani children. Even when he was kidnapped and he was certain that he would be killed he never gave up hope.
