A. Caliphs Most importantly they preserved science, math, architecture, art, and medicine Europe was in the dark ages with very little learning +/o advancement in these areas The large area of the peaceful Islamic Empire allowed for growth in these areas.
B. Achievements of the Arab Empire • Medicine – IbenSinah, wrote a medical book used for the next 600 years • Math • Hindu Arabic Numerals – the ones we use today • Invented Al jabr (algebra) • Astronomy – perfected the astrolab (invented by the Greeks) used to find position No. and So. at sea
B. Achievements of the Arab Empire • Arabesques, the patterned designs, and calligraphy were created in the Arab world Why? • Minarets tall thin towers were built in all Muslim cities. Why? • Arabian Nights • A gathering of stories from all over the Arab world • Stories like Aladdin, Ali Baba, & Sinbad the sailor
