OPC Cambridge Chimes: Sunday Worship Service

Join us for our Sunday worship service at OPC Cambridge Chimes. We begin with greetings and announcements, followed by the ringing of the bell and prelude. Our call to worship and invocation remind us of God's love, which we celebrate by singing hymns of praise. We then offer a prayer of confession, seeking forgiveness for our shortcomings in showing love. The assurance of pardon assures us of God's everlasting love and forgiveness. Our special music segment features a performance by Holly Kelsey. The proclamation of the Word includes readings from Jeremiah 1:4-10 and 1 Corinthians 12:31b-13:13, reminding us of the importance of love in all aspects of our lives. Join us as we worship, learn, and grow together.

  13. *PRAYER OF CONFESSION L: Love is patient and kind. P: Lord, it is hard to be patient when there is so much we need and want. When other people slow us down, it is easy to forget to be kind.

  14. L: Love is not jealous or conceited or proud. P: But we are, God. We look at some people and think we are better than they are. We look at other people and feel jealous of what they have and what they can do. Forgive us.

  15. L: Love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable. P: But we often blurt out rude, hurting words and accusations, almost before we know what we are saying. Help us learn to think before we speak.

  16. L: Love does not keep a record of wrongs. P: But we remember even those wrongs we have really tried to forgive. We remember them and bring them up when we are angry or when we want our own way.

  17. We use them to hurt even the people we love. Help us to forgive and forget. L: Love is not happy with evil. Love is happy with the truth.

  18. P: But it is hard not to take secret delight when people get what they have coming to them. Teach us compassion, God. L: Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.

  19. P: But we give up easily. We give up on other people. We give up on ourselves. We give up on making a difference. We lose hope that anything will ever be any different. Forgive us, for we pray in Jesus’ name.

  20. ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Hear this about God’s great love: God is patient and kind. God does not keep a record of our wrongs. God does not remember our failings at loving, but is happy about every one of our successes. God never gives up on us,

  21. because God’s love is forever. Know you are forgiven. P: Now, forgiven, we can bear all things, hope all things, endure all things. Thanks be to God! Amen.

  22. SPECIAL MUSIC ~Holly Kelsey

  23. PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Jeremiah 1:4-10

  24. Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.’ Then I said, ‘Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.’But the Lord saidto me,

  25. ‘Do not say, “I am only a boy”; for you shall go to all whom I send, and you shall speak whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.’ Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the Lordsaid to me,

  26. ‘Now I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.’

  27. SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Corinthians 12:31b-13:13

  28. And I will show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and knowledge, and if I have faith, so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

  29. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in thetruth.

  30. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when thecomplete comes, the partial will come to an end.

  31. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will knowfully, even as I havebeen fully known.

  32. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!

  45. P: It is right to give God thanks and praise. L: It is indeed right to give you our thanks and praise, Loving God, for into this troubled world you break forth with the Light of Love. Though we choose to embrace the call ofsin, you come to us with goodnews of your mercy and love – and the call to love others.

  46. When we forget the good way of following you, you remember us and look upon us with favor by sending prophets, unexpected angels and even your own Son Jesus. Therefore with the angels and all the other hosts of heaven we stand in awe beforeyou to join their chorus ofpraise:

  47. P: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of love, heaven and earth are full of your glory and love. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. • L: In sending Jesus the Christ, the obedient one, you revealedto all how your Love works. Hehonored your call on his lifeby preaching, teaching,

  48. restoring, and redeeming. He brought Love everywhere he went. He taught us how your love works, and how we should love. For that we are deeply thankful. So, here in this holy time of celebration, here at the sacred feast prepared for us, we wouldspeak of that mystery wecall faith:

  49. P: We remember Christ’s death; we remember Christ’s resurrection; we remember Christ will come again in glory. • L: God of light, let your Holy Spirit move in power and love over us and over these earthly gifts of breadand wine. By our sharing ofthem, may we experience themystery of the true communion

  50. of the body and blood of Christ, and may we be strengthened to follow him and carry his healing to all who are in need.
