Envisionware At the Rochester Hills Public Library Rochester, Michigan Installed in April 2007 Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
About Computing @RHPL • One location: • 75 public computers with LPT:One • 61 (of those 75) also run PC Reservation • 7 different PC areas • 3 Reservation stations • 2 Print Release stations • Integrated with Websense – filter level set by computer Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
Why Envisionware? • Comparing systems • Envisionware is a true reservation system • Envisionware is a Polaris partner/reseller • My own previous experience with SAM • Bottom line: They all do essentially the same thing – you need to decide which one works best for your library’s environment. Install Preparation • Alert the public: Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
Install Timeline • We planned to be down for 3 full days • All the various pieces had to be configured: clients, printers, copiers, etc. • Envisionware staff did an on-site install • We were live at noon on day 3, after the install, testing, and multiple staff training sessions were complete Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
The Features • PC Reservation handles computer management • Requires Polaris library card number and PIN • Can be done locally at a client computer or at a Reservation Station • Configuration is a snap • Session limits, grace period, extended time • Guest passes • Why reservations are different Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
The Features • LPT:One handles print management • Print jobs sent to a central queue and can be picked up at any Print Release station • Print jobs can be reprinted from the queue • Print jobs can be free (allocation or password override), paid for with cash (coin-op), or paid for by debit AAM account • Currently pre-release testing new print client that is not dependent on local printer drivers Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
Other Features • Ethernet Terminals – allow for paying for copiers using money on AAM account • Wireless Print Client – allow for customers to install a print client on their own laptops that integrate with LPT:One • Filter support • eCommerce available Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
Requirements • NO server needed – our administration modules do run on a Domain Controller (server) on our public network, but that is not required – it would be fine on a PC • Reservation stations, Print Release stations, coin & bill acceptors, Ethernet Terminals – if desired • Barcode scanners, receipt printers – if desired Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007

Manage your AAM Account • At the Print Release station Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
Looking Back • Our install went extremely smoothly • Biggest issue for us was getting customers transitioned from copy cards to AAM account for printing • And discovering that we had to use VNC instead of Windows Server 2003 to access our management console Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
Currently • Pre-release testing new print client • Support is good – love that they have a chat support service! • They release hotfixes regularly and allow for auto-updating of the clients • System pretty much runs itself • We made a configuration change just this week – did it myself, took effect immediately – no issues Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
Looking Forward… • …to adding the Wireless Print client for customers • …to adding some eCommerce options for credit card payment as well • …to future addition of fines/fees payment…maybe someday integrated more directly with Polaris Rochester Hills Public Library Polaris Users Group Conference 2007
