About us The Folk Fest sur le canal is an arts organization dedicated to enriching Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough through community, public, and private partnerships, and fostering the city’s cultural landscape.

A family-focused festival • Musical performances geared toward kids • Volunteers who care about families’ needs • Healthy food options • Face painting, bouncy castles, crafts, and more in a supervised family area—free of charge and open all weekend long!
Volunteers We rely on a community of 140+ volunteers from all labour segments to assist with security, hospitality, transportation, CD sales, and more. Our volunteers come back year after year to relive this rewarding experience.
The Lhasa de Sela Youth Stage Inaugurated in 2012, this stage was created to give young folk musicians, dancers, and storytellers a chance to perform in front of an audience and hone their craft.
The local scene & community dances The Festival includes emerging and local acts, and uses venues in the neighbouring area. Nightly square dances were added to the program in 2016.
The Lhasa de Sela Youth Bursary for Excellence in Music In 2013, the Festival created an annual youth bursary to support young musicians who wish to further their study or practice of music.
Local flavours Homegrown talent is given centre stage with 10+ local food kiosks, 25+ local craft vendors, and local beer & wine.
Greening In 2015, a free bike valet service was introduced to encourage people to come to the Festival by bike. In 2013, the Festival made the switch to reusable glasses, significantly reducing waste.
