  1. Welcome to 8th grade Science Ms. Lower Check your schedule – make sure you are in the right place.

  2. Daily expectations • Entering Class: • Do NOT enter unless Ms. Lower is present. • Bring all materials to class daily. (pen, pencil, paper, notebook, homework, planner.) • Turning in work • pass papers to team captain. • Team captain will place in class folder. • Dismissal • your teacher tells you when to stop working and when to put your things away • push your chair in • Leave the room when told by your teacher.

  3. Group Work • Stay on task • Criticize ideas – not people • Ex: your stupid, that is lame, or laughing at another person. • Instead: Offer your opinion, be open to discussion. • Work Equally • Ask questions • Try to understand the other persons point of view • Show interest in what the other person is saying • Make eye contact • Listen and respond • “Thank you for sharing” • “I like your ideas” • Stay in your group

  5. Mix – Pair - Share • Stand up – take 4 square paper • Silently mix • Teacher – “Pair” • Pair – high 5 - Share (intro yourself) • Meet other pair and intro you partner.

  6. Find - the – Fiction (?)# generator • Write 3 statements: 2 T & 1 F (tricky) • Members take turns - stand and share all 3 statements • Sitting members write down the statement they think is false. (private) • Round Robin – sitting members share and defend guess. • I think… b/c…… • If your statements is guess stand and congratulate members. • If your statement is not guessed members congratulate you. • Congratulations – “Good Job” or “Good Try”

  7. Restrooms • I DO NOT allow students to leave class to use the restroom. • Special cases • Emergency • D-hall • Students should use the restroom during passing periods. • Students using the restroom need to get in and get out quickly. • The restroom is not a playground.
