  8. NHS BOWEL CANCER SCREENING WHO WHY 1 in 20 people will get Bowel Cancer during their lifetime. It is the 2ndleading cause of Cancer deaths in the UK. Screening is vital as it can help detect early signs of cancer, which caught early enough is easier to treat. Screening will look for and remove any small growths called polyps which could eventually turn into cancer. Men and Women over the age of 60 are invited to take part in Bowel Cancer Screening. (In Scotland, screening starts from age 50). You are invited to take part in screening every 2 years until you reach the age of 75. FOB TEST - Faecal occult blood (hidden blood). Checks for tiny amounts of blood in your stools, it doesn’t diagnose cancer but can indicate the need for further tests. If you are registered with a GPa Home Screening Kit (FOB Test) will be sent automatically to all men & women aged from 60 to 74 every two years. Sharon White (Lead BCS) Most people will have a normal result, this means that no polyps or cancers were found. A bowel scope screening is offered to both men and women aged 55.

  9. NHS BOWEL CANCER SCREENING There are two types of test available in NHS Bowel Cancer Screening 2. NEW!Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) A new Test to be rolled out Autumn 2018 and in place nationwide by 2019. • 1. Current Home Testing Kit (FOB test)

  10. NHS BREAST CANCER SCREENING WHO WHY Screening is vital as it can help detect early signs of cancer, which caught early enough is easier to treat. 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with Breast Cancer during their lifetime. It is the most common Cancer in the UK. In the UK each year, about 62,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer, including around 370 men. The NHS offers screening to save lives from Breast Cancer. Screening does not prevent you from getting Breast Cancer. All women aged 50-70 are invited for Breast Screening every 3 years. Your risk of Breast Cancer increases as you get older. Breast screening uses an x-ray test called a mammogram to check the breast for signs of cancer. It can spot cancers that are too small to see or feel. Naheed Razzaq (Lead BCS) If you are over 70, you are still at risk but will no longer be automatically invited for screening. You ill need to ask your local breast screening unit for an appointment. In about 96 out of every 100 women screened the mammogram will show no sign of cancer- this is a normal result.
