  3. Project aim IF • The aim of the project is to assist and/or train individuals involved in the guidance and counselling and educational sector to: • increase their knowledge and understanding of the barriers that encumber migrants; • and promote social dialogue in order to facilitate better support for migrants.

  4. Project origin IF Asylum and Immigration Act 1999: dispersal policy for refugees seeking asylum + Lack of preparation for vocational guidance services with little experience of migrants = Mainstreaming vocational guidance for refugees and migrants, www.gla.ac.uk/rg, 2003-2007

  5. Transfer IF IF is a transfer of innovation to countries not involved in the original project (Germany, Slovenia, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom). The main part being transferred is the curriculum but in a much shorter form. The expert partners, who were both involved in the original project, have adapted the curriculum.

  7. The curriculum IF Three modules: 1 Finding and making sense of relevant information for use in guidance with refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants 2 Multicultural guidance 3 Improving the practice of the guidance service

  8. The approach IF Each module has three activities: 1 Reflection 2 Action 3 Assignment or discussion These are supported by reading material and web links, as well as by a tutor and peers.

  9. Reflection IF Each section contains questions to guide reflection. The topics are: Module1 Where I am now in relation to my knowledge Module 2 My culture Module 3 Where my organisation is now

  10. Action IF Module1 Improving the state of my knowledge Module 2 Looking for multicultural guidance models and skills Module 3 Evaluating and planning improvement for your service

  11. Assignments IF These can equally be discussion topics in a short course. Module1 Find out about rights and entitlements of forced and unforced migrants; useful web sites; specialist guidance needs; other needs Module 2 How I work with migrants now, how my work could be improved to take in the heterogeneous needs of migrant guidance seekers Module 3 Creating a vision of organisational practice to accommodate the needs of migrants.

  12. Before I stop ... A brief overview of 4 more projects about refugees and migrants... The first is very new so there is no logo or website yet. It is called Integration of Refugees into the European educational and labour market: Requirements for a target oriented approach.

  13. Feel Like a Migrant Feel Like a Migrant: A multicultural approach in teaching has produced a course for teachers of migrants and refugees and others associated with their education. It is in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Roumanian. www.flam-project.eu

Culture et Citoyenneté Culture et Citoyenneté Européenne pour l'Emploi (Culture and European Citizenship for Employability) is in English, French, German, Polish, Roumanian, Swedish and Turkish and has produced orientation materials for migrants in the construction and cleaning sectors in Austria, France, Germany and Sweden. www.ccee.fr

Globalisation and Opportunities Finally, Globalisation and Opportunities: Vocational education for transnational careers is in English but the other partners are from Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Roumania, the Czech Republic and Turkey. We are producing case studies and recommendations. www.transmigranteducation.eu
