NSRRC Educational Programs cradle for young scientists specialized in synchrotron radiation The Educational Programs at the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC) in Taiwan provides an environment for students to work in the advanced research facility as well as to experience the campus life in the renowned universities as National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU). These two universities are located at a working distance from the Center, allowing the students to take full advantage of both research environments. Innovative techniques with synchrotron light provide emerging opportunities in interdisciplinary scientific researches. At the NSRRC, physicists work side by side with chemists and materials scientists in an international environment. Biologists, medical doctors, meteorologists, geophysicists and archaeologists have become regular users. Industrial applications are also growing, notably in the fields of pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals and microelectronics. The NSRRC Educational Programs offers exciting opportunities for chemists, physicists, biologists and material scientists who want to pursue a PhD. • Participating Departments/Institutes • National Tsing Hua University • Department of Life Sciences (http://life.nthu.edu.tw) • Department of Physics (http://www.phys.nthu.edu.tw/en/) • Department of Engineering and System Science (http://www.ess.nthu.edu.tw/) • National Chiao Tung University • Department of Electronics Engineering (http://www.ee.nctu.edu.tw/en/) • Department of Photonics (http://www.ieo.nctu.edu.tw/english/) • Department of Material Science and Engineering (http://www.mse.nctu.edu.tw/en/) • Institute of Environmental Engineering (http://www.cc.nctu.edu.tw/eng/) • Institute of Nanotechnology (http://www.cc.nctu.edu.tw/~INT/introduction_e.htm) • Department of Biological Science and Technology (http://bio.life.nctu.edu.tw/) Since the student will be granted a diploma from these partner universities, the thesis will be advised simultaneously by a research scientist in NSRRC and a faculty in the university in the field of “Science and Technology of Advanced Light Source”.
