  3. What does the USS Yorktown have to do with ZERO Day? September 21, 1997 This billion dollar missile cruiser was dead in the water. Its 80,000 horsepower engines were silent.

  4. Where did zero come from? The first evidence we have of zero is from the Sumerian culture in Mesopotamia, some 5,000 years ago. There, a slanted double wedge was inserted between cuneiform symbols for numbers, written positionally, to indicate the absence of a number in a place

  5. Where did zero come from? The Mayans invented it independently circa 4 A.D. They used an “eye-like” character to represent zero.

  7. Born in Persia in 780,al-Khwarizmiwas a gifted mathematician, astronomer and geographer. He is believed to have developed the algorithms known today as Algebra. He was responsible for spreading the Indian system of numeration.

  8. Where did zero come from? The Chinese started writing the open circle we now use for zero near the end of the 8th century.

  9. Leonardo Fibonacci is credited with introducing the idea of zero to the Europeans in the 12th century by translating the works of al-Khwarizmi. The symbol for zero came about through his effort to draw an “empty hole” to represent “nothing”.
