  4. Theme and Variations They are actually part of Piero Fornasetti’s “Tema e Variazioni” (Theme and Variations) porcelain plate art series. All of his plates feature the face of operatic soprano Lina Cavalieri, whose classically feminine face he saw featured in a 19th century magazine. There are more than 350 face plates in the collection. Describe what you can see in these photographs. Is it the same woman? What is the same in each photo? What is different?
