Important Questions Is continued treatment to be seen as prolonging life or postponing death? How does one determine this and who should determine it? Are we "playing God" to remove treatment or life-sustaining food and hydration? Are we "playing God" to prolong a life through those means? In which cases? What about when the patient is unable to decide and has not made his or her wishes known? What about the thorny cases of those in a permanently vegetative state?
