7-8 Center of Mass

7-8 Center of Mass. Until now, we have dealt with objects as point masses. Few objects truly behave that way…so we have to determine a center of mass. Motion will be divided into translational motion and general motion…(includes some rotation, vibration, or other motion about the CM.)

  1. 7-8 Center of Mass Until now, we have dealt with objects as point masses. Few objects truly behave that way…so we have to determine a center of mass. Motion will be divided into translational motion and general motion…(includes some rotation, vibration, or other motion about the CM.) Xcm = mx1 + mx2 + mx3…… m 1 + m 2 + m 3

  2. CM for the Human Body • For the human body, use the values on the chart p. 197 to calculate CM. (You will have this chart in ‘possibly useful information.’ • See Example 7-12

  3. 7-10 Center of Mass and Translational Motion • Mvcm = m1v1 + m2v2 + m3v3 • Macm = F1 + F2 + F3
