  1. Joshua 2:1-15 Rahab in Rehab

  2. The Story • Spies arrive in Jericho • She helped protect them, hid them under flax • Agreed to save her and her family – let scarlet cord drape from the window • When Israel crossed the Jordan and marched around Jericho – Rahab was spared from the destruction of the city.

  3. Her Condition • Joshua 2:1 Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there. • Defiled – a harlot in a pagan city • Dead – spiritually, she was dead in sin • Doomed – Jericho was about to be destroyed

  4. Her Condition • If you are out of Christ – you are in the same condition as Rahab • Defiled in a helpless, hopeless life • Dead in sin • Doomed to eternal condemnation

  5. Her Confession • Joshua 2:12-14 12 Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token, 13 and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death." 14 So the men answered her, "Our lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. And it shall be, when the Lord has given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you."

  6. Her Confession • What she confessed • Joshua 2:9-11 and said to the men: "I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. 10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

  7. Her Confession • What she claimed • Joshua 2:12-13 12 Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token, 13 and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death."

  8. Her Conversion • Proved by her actions • Protected the spies • Helped them escape safely • Proved by her new love • She wanted to follow the Lord God of Israel • She wanted others to know Him • Proved by her new life • She lives a new life in Israel • She is in the genealogy of Jesus

  9. Her Conversion • New Realities • Joshua 6:25 And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father's household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. • She was spared death and destruction • The scarlet cord made the difference • (The blood of Christ makes the difference)

  10. Her Conversion • New Realities • New Relatives Ruth 4:21 Salmon begot Boaz, and Boaz begot Obed; 22 Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David. • Matthew 1:5-6 5 Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, 6 and Jesse begot David the king. • David's grandmother was Ruth. His great-grandmother was Rahab.

  11. Her Conversion • New Realities • New Relatives • New Reputation • Matthew 1:5 Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, • NOTE: The first time she is NOT called “the harlot” was in Matthew 1:5. • From the hall of Shame to the Hall of Fame

  12. What about You? • Do you need a rehab from sin? • Realize your CONDITION • Make your CONFESSION • Appreciate your CONVERSION
