Update your passport • Check the Canadian Government Travel Advisories! • Check country visa requirements • Check currency exchange and banking options • Get some local currency • Pack lightly • Label your bags • Register with your embassy • Learn the common travel scams

Getting Carried Away… • Read the article “Getting Carried Away Watching Your Suitcase” • Create a two-column chart with the headings “Suggestions” and “Why?” • As you read, make a list of the suggestions you should consider when travelling and identify why they should be considered in order to protect your personal safety

  5. Country Advisories – Homework Task Government of Canada (travel.gc.ca) • Choose a country where you would like to travel • Identify if there are any advisories. If there are, what is the rating and why? • Use the tabs along the top of the page (Advisories, Security, Entry Exit Requirements, Health, Laws and Culture, Disasters and Climate) to learn more about the current situation in the country • If your country of choice did not have an advisory, choose one that does so you can see how the government warns Canadian citizens about potential issues while abroad. • How might these advisories be biased? Why might it be useful to consult a variety of security sources before we travel?
