THE AIM OF THE COURSE • To enrich vocabulary knowledge and help the learners to improve daily usage of the language. • To learn some phrases, structures, idioms, words,etc. that will be useful for classroom language and daily conversations outside the classroom. • To give a sample lesson and have the chance to apply different tecniques in these lessons

  7. COURSE BOOK and ITS AUTHOR • My teaching career began in 1984 in Selby, North Yorkshire, where I taught French and German in a comprehensive school for five years. At the end of the eighties I moved to Madrid and a career in ELT. Most of my time there has been spent working with International House, as teacher, teacher-trainer and at one point Cambridge Examinations Co-ordinator. In the mid 1990s I spent 18 months in Vilnius, Lithuania, where I held the post of Director of Studies at Soros International House. • In 1996 I came back to International House Madrid to teach, and started writing for Macmillan three years later. With the invaluable support and understanding of my wife, Azucena, and daughters Lara and Elisa, I have written Ready for FCE (2001), Ready for CAE(2004) and Straightforward Advanced (2008), and co-written Direct to FCE(2011). I also contributed to the Spanish bachillerato course Upgrade (2010).

  9. AIM of the BOOK READY FOR FCE • FCE contains a wide range of activities aims at improving students’ English and develop the language and skills which students will need to pass the FCE examination.

  10. CONTENTS of the BOOK • Vocabulary • Each topic vocabulary is reproduced in the Wordlist at the end of the book. The Wordlist is grouped according to the unit: • Topic vocabulary: Clothes, Music, Sports, Films, • Phrasal Verbs: page 68 • Expressions and phrasal verbs: get (Page6) , take (page 47), have (page 72), come, put, give, make and do.

Use of English • Word Formation: Affiex: -er, -ist, -eer, -or, -ant, (Page: 22) • Reading • Writing • Listening • Each unit has either one or two listening activities. • Recording contain a variety of different accents. • “What to expect” and “How to go about it” boxes, particularly in the earlier stages of the course, give information on listening in the FCE exam.
