Adam Smith Wealth of Nations, 1776: Foundation of Modern Economics The Theory of Moral Sentiments, 1759: Moral nature of human beings, centered on promoting the well-being of oneself and one's family, one's friends and one's country – ever-widening circles – basis of “invisible hand”, by which self-interest brings about social well-being

Catholicism The relation between morality and economics is necessary, indeed intrinsic: economic activity and moral behaviour are intimately joined one to the other. American Christianity • In order to raise the bar in your life, first be honest with yourself. If you are lazy, get up an hour earlier in the morning. If you are a gossip, repent to the person to that you talked about. If you are stingy, sow a financial seed into someone’s life that you admire. When you get rid of the baggage, God will bless your business and ministry above what you can ask, think or pray.
Islam • ...the Islamic worldview, conditioned by three of the faith's basic tenets – unity, viceregency and justice – emphasizes both the mundane and spiritual aspects of human development.
Baha'i Faith • ...unless the development of society finds a purpose beyond the mere amelioration of material conditions, it will fail of attaining even these goals.
