UCAS applications /Whether you intend to study in a French speaking or an English speaking university ; you are likely to need a personal statement .
What is a personal statement? Is it a CV? NO, but you will need to refer to your qualifications , predicted grades and experience. Is it an essay to assess my ability to write ? PARTLY. A statement MUST be drafted in correct English. Of course, the content matters a great deal as well.
What is a personal statement? Is it a piece of paper which is going to be read swiftly and then filed? Highly unlikely. Most universities read statements very carefully , especially if candidates are of high/ similar calibre. Very often it will make all the difference between being offered a place or not. Is a personal statement a substitute to an interview? Sometimes it is! It means a statement might be your ONLY opportunity to prove you deserve a place at your dream uni.
WHAT NEXT? Do your research ! At least. Visit the university website. Try to attend career days where the University has a stand. Ask around , try to find out from friends, siblings, friends of your parents… someone who attends/ attended the uni you are interested in. Visit the UCAS website for tips on personal statements and application deadlines ( for the UK). http://www.ucas.com/students/applying/howtoapply/personalstatement/ If you apply to North American Universities , you will still need a personal statement and the website above will be useful.
