  1. LOCAL CONTENT VERIFICATION UPDATE • National Solar Water Heater Programme Municipal Workshop • Burgers Park Hotel, Pretoria 30 May 2014

  2. PRESENTATION OUTLINE INTRODUCTION SWH RFRI PROCESS LOCAL CONTENT VERIFICARION OBSERVATIONS

  3. INTRODUCTION The 1 million solar water heater (SWH) systems’ installation remains the government’s short-tem target. Funding is proposed over the current Medium term Expenditure Framework. The ultimate is to better utilise public purse to address other persistent developmental challenges - the national SWH rollout needs to be viewed in this light. An additional 4 million SWH systems are envisioned to be installed by 2030. These bold targets seek to lay solid foundation for the establishment of a robust local SWH manufacturing base for South Africa.

  4. SWH RFRI PROCESS

  5. LOCAL CONTENT VERIFICATION OBSERVATIONS All Respondents support localisation. Local content for major components not declared separately. Most local manufacturers do tanks (15l – 300l). Very few manufacturers of both tanks collectors. Designation-complaint manufacturing capacity not matching demand.
