Name of animal: Peregrine falcon • Scientific Name of animal: Falco Peregrinus • Vertebrate or Invertebrate: Vertebrate • Class of animal: Bird • Other names of animal: Raptor/ Hybrid Introduction
I know you are a raptor bird but how do I know you’re a Peregrine Falcon? You know I’m a Peregrine Falcon when you see a big bird. I am 20 inches tall and my wingspan is 91-112 c.m. I weigh about 2-5 pounds. I’m about 8 inches taller than most other birds. My outside is brown and a white belly with white stripes. Also I am the fastest bird,63 miles per hour. Now you know I’m a Peregrine Falcon.
How do I know if I am in your habitat? Well, you can know if you are in my habitat when you come by a big building, a steep cliff, or a tall tree. It is hard to find my nest up in those tall trees, Tall buildings, and steep cliffs. We can live in many parts of the world except for cold places like Antarctica. That’s how you know if you are in my habitat.
I know you’re a high level predator but who do you eat and what eats you? I really don’t get eaten by other birds but sometimes I do. For starters I eat smaller birds, smaller mammals, small reptiles, and lots of bats. And now who eats me. Great horned owls, golden eagles, and gyrfalcons. I can even eat larger birds if my eggs are attacked. Now you know who eats me and who I eat.
Are your babies born live or born from an egg? My babies are born from eggs because I am a bird. Sometimes they live to be 1 year old if they are unhealthy but if they are healthy they live to be 13 years old. Poison called D.D.T. Kills my babies. My babies are white and fluffy and I make my nests on ledges. The women get to take care of the babies. DON’T LOOK FOR MY NEST!
How do you live out in the wild? I live out in the wild most of the time but it could be hard. I try to protect myself with my voice. I use my voice to screech and scare away predators. But sometimes farmers use DDT and it kills the eggs. Also sometimes I use my talons to attack. Life is not super easy being a Peregrine Falcon but I manage to do it.
How do you communicate? I communicate in a cool way. To communicate I use cack calls.
