Govindan Lakshmanan, is an Indian famous sports person. He is an Indian Distance Runner. He was the 3rd to have won the Asian Athletics Championship in the 5000 meters and the 1st since 1993. Lost his father at a very young age, Lakshmananu2019s aim to become an athlete never drowned. In fact, that incident inspired this young man to choose athletics and made him achieve what he is today making India proud.

On 5thJune of 1990, Govindan Lakshmanan was born in Tamil Nadu. His father died at the age of six and his mother was a daily wage worker.
The youngster met Laganathan who runs the Youth Sports Club at the age of 16, to become an athlete. The boy ran barefooted on the roads of Pudukkottai.
The runner participated in various events and worked hard to be the best at it. He took part in the National and Internationally in 5000 meters, 10,000 meters and half marathon.
Govindan Lakshmanan achieved a bronze medal at Asian Championship held in Wuhan in China in the year 2015. At the same event, he also won the Silver medal in the 10000 meters.
The famous player of India won a gold medal in the 5000 meters category in the Asian Championship held in Bhubaneshwar in 2017. The sportsperson also became a gold medalist in 10,000 meters event.
Govindan Lakshmanan became the third Indian to achieve a Gold medal at the Asian Championship. He is also the first Indian, who won 5000 meters and 10000 meters in the Asian Championship.
After the victory in Bhuvaneshwar, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Edappadi K. Palaniswami rewarded rupees 20 Lakhs to Govindan Lakshmanan. Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha appreciated the athlete with rupees 20 Lakhs.
Govindan Lakshmanan got an opportunity to run with idol and world-famous British runner Mo’ Farag at World Championship in 2017. He finished the line with his best timing of 13:35.69s.
The athlete won gold medal in 3,000 meters at the Asian Indoor Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, in 2017. The sports player is employed as Havildar.
