Science Fair 2018-2019 Pre-K – 1st Grade. DESCRIPTIVE INVESTIGATIONS. Students in Pre-K through 1st grade will conduct descriptive investigations. A descriptive investigation is an exploratory experiment which gives instructions for investigating something or producing something.

  1. Science Fair 2018-2019Pre-K – 1st Grade

  2. DESCRIPTIVE INVESTIGATIONS Students in Pre-K through 1st grade will conduct descriptive investigations. A descriptive investigation is an exploratory experiment which gives instructions for investigating something or producing something. Descriptive investigations do not have nor do they need a hypothesis. It is an experiment performed basically to collect information about a topic.

  3. SCIENCE FAIR DATES: • Classroom Judging of Projects: Week of November 26-30, 2018 • Campus Science Fair: Thursday, December 6, 2018 • District Science Fair: Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Sam Houston Elementary

  4. All projects are due on Friday, November 16, 2018. • However, if a student wishes to continue working on the project over the Thanksgiving break, that will be allowed. We are not encouraging working over the holiday. • All projects must be completed and in the classroom by Monday, November 25, 2018 before noon. (extension for emergencies) • Any project brought in after that time will NOT be eligible for competition.

  5. PRE-K AND KINDER:COLLECTIONS • Such as butterflies, rocks, insects, bugs, plants, leaves, shells, or seeds • Students will work on the project at school and turn in one class project for competition in the Campus Science Fair. • The winning project will go to the District Science Fair for showcasing only. There is no further competition.

  9. FIRST GRADE:MODELS Such as the solar system, planet Earth, life cycles, water cycle, or body systems Each participating student will compete in class and the top 2 projects will advance to the Campus Science Fair for judging. The winning project will go to the District Science Fair for further competition.

  14. Remember, Science can be fun. Completing a Science Fair project is just one way to introduce young students to the wonders of science. If you have any questions please feel to ask your child’s teachers or any of the Science Fair Committee members here tonight. Thank you.
