Communication • Parents are “experts” – Please fill us in and keep us in the loop! • Daily red homework folders (notes, notices, completed work) • Email (eisenman2@lincnet.org) or phone messages (274-7721, x. 6466) • Parent-Teacher Conferences (Oct./Nov. & March) • Report Cards (December, March, June)
Learning Targets • Learning targets are crafted by teachers and used during lessons to guide students towards what is expected. • “Look-fors” help students know what they can do to reach the learning target • Can be short or long term
Standards Based Reporting • Learning targets are based on standards from the Lincoln Learning Expectations, which are based on state and national standards • Our report card is organized by standards with descriptions for the grade level. Important highlights include • Growth as a learner section and academic achievement section • Effort and academic achievement are separate • We use a 4, 3, 2, 1 scoring system on individual assessments as well as on report cards 4: yes, and 3: yes 2: yes, but 1: not yet
How to Help at Home • Check red folder nightly! • Emphasize nightly reading and talking about what has been read • Support practice of writing • Practice Math Facts (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication) • Encourage a growth mindset

Math • Everyday Mathematics curriculum • Direct instruction as well as hands on activities • Differentiation through small group instruction, independent practice, games, computer practice (X-tra Math, websites, Dreambox)
Snack/Recess • Snack every day - please remember to pack your child a healthy snack every day • We will go outside for recess every day, except for rain or extreme cold, so please make sure to send children to school with appropriate clothing
Writing • Writing workshop: mini-lessons, workshop model • Narrative, expository, and opinion writing • Cursive • Word Work: Spelling Patterns • Daily Language Instruction: editing, conventions, grammar
Language Arts • CENTERS • Guided Reading (small group leveled instruction) • Reader’s Workshop Mini-lessons (whole group skill/strategy lessons) • Read to Self/Just Right Reading • Read to Someone (fluency practice) • Writing about Reading • Word study (phonics, vocabulary)
Lunch/Recess • Students eat in the cafeteria/gym • Lunch money can be sent to school or can be deposited online with MyNutrikids (on LPS website) • Deployment lunch groups with Mrs. Salis
